School Updates

February 7, 2026

Dear Harbor View Families,

This past week, our students celebrated World Read Aloud Day by reading I Am Enough by Grace Byers and enjoyed meaningful IlluminArt Productions performances that centered on kindness, respect, and positive choices. Throughout February, our school will continue to honor Black History Month and engage in learning experiences that highlight kindness, belonging, respect, and celebrating our diversity. We look forward to culminating this important work with our school‑wide  celebration on February 27th at 8:15am, where students will share their learning with our community. As we prepare for mid‑winter break from February 16–20, here are this week’s updates for our school community.

🌟 PTA Kindness Grams – Extended!

Our PTA’s Kindness Gram Fundraiser has been extended!

  • Online orders: www.theharborviewschool.org/pta - open through Sunday, February 8th at midnight
  • Paper orders: submit to the main office on Monday, February 9th.

💙 Respect for All Week: February 9–13

Next week, students will participate in daily activities that highlight teamwork, kindness, and treating others with respect:

👉 Monday, Feb 9 — Celebrate TEAMWORK
Wear your favorite team jersey or our school colors!

👉 Tuesday, Feb 10 — The Golden Rule
Wear yellow or gold to honor:
“Treat others the way that you want to be treated.”

👉 Wednesday, Feb 11 — Crazy Socks Day
Let’s “sock‑it” to bullying!” Wear your craziest socks.

👉 Thursday, Feb 12 — Color the World With Kindness
Wear your favorite colors to brighten our school with kindness.

👉 Friday, Feb 13 — Kindness Day / No One Eats Alone
Wear red, white, and pink to celebrate that no one eats alone and we are one community.

These activities connect beautifully to our YOU BE YOU theme: “We Are Enough.”

💛 MSK & MBK Service Project Kickoff: “MSK for MSK”

This week, our My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) and My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Clubs launched their service project: MSK for MSK, supporting Memorial Sloan Kettering.

To build excitement, both clubs are hosting a Penny War in the main lobby!
Students can participate daily by adding change to their club’s jar.
Are you Team MSK or Team MBK?

Our MSK Club has invited all District 31 MSK Clubs to join in this meaningful initiative.

🧁 PTA Fundraiser: Moretti Dream Cakes

Our PTA is also hosting a delicious fundraiser with Moretti Dream Cakes!
You can pre‑order mini dream cakes to be picked up during our February school‑wide celebration on Friday, February 27th.

⭐ Why students should use their DOE email

When students log in with their DOE @nycstudents.net account:

  • They will be automatically placed into their correct breakout room for their class.
  • Their teacher can identify them quickly.
  • No renaming is needed.

This is the fastest and most accurate way to join remote classes.

If You Join Using Your Own Zoom Account

Families may join the meeting using their personal Zoom account, but:

  • You must rename yourself with your child’s full name and class or grade.
Example: “Ava Rodriguez – 3rd Grade”
  • Select breakrooms and click the one for your class / grade
  • If you join this way, someone from our team will assist you and move your child to the correct breakout room.
