School Updates

August 2026 Updates - 8/5/2026

Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year!

Dear Harbor View School Families,

I hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful summer! While there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy, the start of a new school year is just around the corner. As we prepare to welcome students back on Thursday, September 10th, I wanted to share a few important updates and answer some of the questions families have been asking.

Class Assignments

Class assignments will be emailed to the address on file in your NYC Schools Account (www.schoolsaccount.nyc) during the week of August 31st.

School Supplies

Our general school supply wish list for the 2026–2027 school year is now available. Most items can be found during back-to-school sales or through community Back-to-School Giveaway events.

We understand that every family's situation is different, and we know that some families may not be able to purchase every item on the list. That is completely okay. If you need assistance obtaining a backpack, classroom supplies, or individual student supplies, please contact me at kdruda@theharborviewschool.org. We are here to help.

After-School Partnerships

Registration is open or opening soon for our after-school partners. Please contact the programs directly for enrollment information and program details.

NYCID Compass @ PS59 (with school breaks and summer camp)

Looking Ahead

We already have several special events planned for September, including our "Students Bring Your STAR to School" Event on Thursday, September 17th at 8:00am, where each student can invite a special adult in their life to accompany them to school and participate in a morning of connection and fun. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important people who help our students shine.

We also invite all families to join us for our Virtual Family Orientation Night on Wednesday, September 30th via Zoom. During this event, you will have the opportunity to meet school staff, learn about important programs and expectations for the year, and hear about ways to stay engaged in your child's education. Additional details and the Zoom link will be shared as the date approaches.

Throughout the year, we will continue to offer family workshops, community events, and opportunities to celebrate student learning and achievement. Your partnership plays an important role in making Harbor View such a special place, and we look forward to working together to make this a year filled with connection, growth, and success. 🌟

Warmly,

Kristen Druda

⭐ Why students should use their DOE email

When students log in with their DOE @nycstudents.net account:

  • They will be automatically placed into their correct breakout room for their class.
  • Their teacher can identify them quickly.
  • No renaming is needed.

This is the fastest and most accurate way to join remote classes.

If You Join Using Your Own Zoom Account

Families may join the meeting using their personal Zoom account, but:

  • You must rename yourself with your child’s full name and class or grade.
Example: “Ava Rodriguez – 3rd Grade”
  • Select breakrooms and click the one for your class / grade
  • If you join this way, someone from our team will assist you and move your child to the correct breakout room.
